Randy Gladman is a Toronto-based land developer, professional services executive, and published thought-leader. His writing focuses on City Building and Contemporary Culture and his articles have been published internationally in newspapers, magazines, books, and websites. Akrylic offers a selection of these projects.
After completing a Masters degree in Art History at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts in 2001, Randy worked at Lehman Maupin Gallery and Mixed Greens Gallery, both in New York City, and began a side-hustle as an independent art critic and curator. His articles about art and culture appeared in the pages of many publications including Artforum, Contemporary, Momus, ArText, Canadian Art, C Magazine, Smock, NY Arts, Strength and others. He contributed to Installationview, a monograph published by Rizzoli New York about the artist Ryan McGinness and from 2010-2012 he was a regular contributor to the Financial Times of London’s How To Spend It online magazine as a “Haute Seat” columnist.
From 1999 to 2004, Randy lived in New York City and traveled to art events across the United States, Europe and the Middle East. During this time, he began actively writing critical commentary about contemporary art and in 2006, he co-founded the Ministry of Artistic Affairs, a membership-based social club that curated a series of informative and interactive events exploring multiple facets of Toronto’s contemporary art scene. From 2014 to 2019, Randy sat as a member of the Board of Directors of the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art. This was a very exciting time for MOCCA during which its mandate and name changed to the Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto and it moved to a new location in Toronto’s Junction Triangle neighbourhood, quintupling in size and scope; MOCA’s new facility opened in 2019.
Upon completing his Masters of Business Administration at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management in 2006, Randy focused his professional interests and efforts in the commercial real estate industry. First joining SmartCentres in 2006 where he learned the craft of land use conversion and development management, he took on new responsibilities at Triovest Realty Advisors in 2013 where he led the Central Canada development team. In 2018, he was recruited to Colliers to start a new professional services business that would deliver development advisory expertise to corporations, institutions, municipalities, family offices, and cultural/non-profit entities that own development-ready land assets but lack the capability to extract the value available through land use conversion. As of 2024, this business has grown to 20 employees located in Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto, and Randy leads this division as the Senior Vice President, National Lead at Colliers Strategy & Consulting. A member of the Urban Land Institute, the International Council of Shopping Centres, and NAIOP Real Estate Development Association, Randy has continued his writing practice, authoring articles about architecture, the future of transportation, affordable housing, and city building.
Randy is an avid skier, consistent Cross-Fitter, guitar aficionado, friend-collector, skilled photographer, passionate debater, and, most importantly of all, family man in rapt adoration of his beautiful wife and brilliant daughter.
